Regarding the impact of brain drain on the facility, Dr. Dada emphasizes the hospital’s proactive approach to address the issue. They have actively encouraged retired specialists and healthcare professionals to return to practice, creating an enabling environment to retain existing staff. Despite resignations, the hospital has designed programs to replace departing personnel, ensuring continuity in service delivery.

In response to the expensive nature of In vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment in Nigeria, Dr. Dada suggests a data-driven approach. By identifying a large patient load with infertility challenges, the hospital aims to increase the volume of IVF treatments, potentially reducing costs by 50%. This strategy aligns with the government’s efforts to make healthcare more accessible through the national health insurance scheme.

Dr. Dada also addresses the broader issue of quackery in healthcare, emphasizing the need to combat it in various medical specialties. He underscores the importance of the national health insurance scheme in providing access to healthcare, reducing the reliance on untrained practitioners.

Discussing the broader problem of brain drain in the healthcare sector, Dr. Dada dismisses predictions of a 50% loss of healthcare workers by 2025. He highlights the international nature of healthcare professions and acknowledges the competition for skilled professionals globally. Dr. Dada suggests improving the well-being of healthcare workers, enhancing remuneration, and creating an environment that fosters hope and security as potential solutions.

Reflecting on his six years as the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Dada notes the hospital’s significant growth in infrastructure, services, and efficiency. Despite facing challenges in different phases, the institution has prioritized human resources, quality of care, and infrastructure development. Dr. Dada remains optimistic about the future, emphasizing the need to improve the economy and address challenges strategically.
