Governor Mbah hailed the late folklorist as a humble and amiable figure whose music reached audiences far beyond Nigeria’s borders.
The news of Ejeagha’s passing, at the age of 95, broke on Saturday evening, sparking widespread mourning across the nation.
In his reaction, Governor Mbah, who had honoured the music icon during his lifetime by rehabilitating Obinagu Road and the adjoining Chief Mike Ejeagha Crescent in Abakpa Nike, pledged that his administration would go further to immortalize the legend in death.
Posting via his verified social media handle, @PNMbah, the governor paid a touching tribute to the Enugu-born artist:
“I am deeply saddened by the death of music icon, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.
Mike Ejeagha was a true legend — a cultural custodian, a proud son of Enugu, and one of the greatest musical minds of his era.
His humility and gentle demeanor stood in contrast to his towering influence. I will always treasure the time we spent together — his warmth, his stories, his joy in simplicity.
His passing is not just a loss to his family, but to Enugu State, the music world, and Nigeria at large.
Ejeagha had a rare gift: transforming everyday folk wisdom into timeless music that resonates across generations and geographies.
His legacy is etched in history, and though his voice has gone silent, his songs will echo forever.
On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, I extend our deepest condolences to the Ejeagha family. We will stand by them, and we will ensure his name lives on.
