The announcement took place during his second visit to Trinity Towers, the headquarters of the RCCG City of David parish, which oversees the Apapa Family. Pastor Adeboye, accompanied by his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, revealed that the name change was a divine directive.
While delivering a sermon based on 2 Kings 2:19-24, Pastor Adeboye explained that the Apapa Family needed a fresh infusion of grace, symbolized by the introduction of salt and a new cruse. He elaborated that the salt represents God’s restoration of flavor and vitality, elimination of bitterness, protection against demonic influences, and promotion of swift progress. The new cruse signifies a fresh start, the recovery of lost glory, and a renewed commitment to spiritual passion.
Pastor Adeboye expressed that those who were once spiritually vibrant but had become lukewarm would reignite and burn brightly again.
The RCCG Apapa Family, established in 1991 at Roxy Cinema, Apapa, began with about 50 members under the leadership of Pastor Tony Rapu. Within five years, it grew to over 45 parishes in Nigeria and abroad, supported by a dedicated workforce of more than 500 people. The family’s mission is to reach heaven while bringing as many souls as possible along, nurturing leaders, and demonstrating excellence, faithfulness, character, and integrity.
The Apapa Family’s journey of growth continued under subsequent leadership, including Pastor Eskor Mfon, who played a significant role in expanding the Apapa Family Churches.
