President Tinubu recently submitted letters to both chambers of the National Assembly, seeking authorization to supplement the ₦27.5 trillion 2024 budget. The proposal includes withdrawing ₦3.2 trillion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for capital expenditures and an additional ₦3 trillion for recurrent expenditures until December 31, 2024. The letter also proposes amendments to the Finance Act, 2023, introducing a windfall tax on banks.
Agbese assured that lawmakers would conduct a thorough scrutiny of the request, collaborating closely with the Senate to ensure timely passage of the supplementary budget. Stressing transparency and accountability, he affirmed the House’s dedication to optimizing the utilization of funds for the benefit of constituents.
“We will meticulously examine every aspect of the budget proposal to ensure efficient resource utilization and its alignment with the best interests of our constituents,” Agbese asserted. “Our commitment to transparency remains unwavering, and we are confident that through diligent scrutiny, we will deliver a budget that serves all Nigerians.”
He highlighted priorities including critical infrastructure, healthcare, education, and public welfare initiatives, emphasizing inclusivity and equitable distribution of resources across Nigeria.
