At the time of her kidnapping, the girl was just four months old. Thanks to a tip-off, NAPTIP traced her to a family in Uyo and apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in her trafficking.

Awhen revealed that the agency is also investigating a separate case related to the illegal sale of a two-month-old baby in the region, raising alarms over the increasing incidence of child trafficking in the state.

Describing human trafficking as a heinous crime against humanity, Awhen vowed that NAPTIP would relentlessly pursue those responsible, warning, “Perpetrators must desist or face severe consequences.”

The two suspects are currently under interrogation and are expected to face charges once the investigation is complete. Meanwhile, the rescued girl has been safely returned to her biological parents after being housed in NAPTIP’s shelter for proper identification.

Awhen emphasized the agency’s commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of human trafficking, calling it a “senseless and barbaric” act that society must work together to eliminate.
