During a session in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Umaru drew attention to the deteriorating security situation within the state.
He emphasized the urgent need to address this issue, asserting that the state is gradually turning into a haven for armed criminals and kidnappers.
Umaru underscored the significant threat that this situation poses to the safety of the state’s residents. He attributed the insecurity in Nasarawa to the substantial infiltration of criminals from neighboring states, emphasizing that if left unaddressed, it could lead to severe economic repercussions for both the state and the entire nation.
The House of Representatives passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to establish permanent security installations to bolster security measures in the state.
To ensure compliance with this resolution, the House directed the committees on Defence, Army, Air Force, Police Affairs, as well as Emergency and Disaster Preparedness.
In recent times, Nasarawa State has witnessed a surge in kidnappings for ransom, with students and prominent figures, including the former Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, and traditional leaders like Gom Mama, HRH Alhaji Bala Adams Zubairu, and Sarkin Gurku, HRH Alhaji Jibril Mamman Waziri, along with his wife, Hajiya Sa’adatu Waziri, being abducted.
