Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor emphasized that while he supports peaceful dialogue and legitimate agitation, he does not align with Nnamdi Kanu’s secessionist movement.

“We’ve made it clear that if you claim to be fighting for the people, you can’t be killing your own brothers and sisters under the guise of a Monday sit-at-home,” Soludo stated.

He noted that the controversial sit-at-home order, once enforced by pro-Biafra elements, has largely collapsed in Anambra State, adding that residents now go about their activities freely.

“Anyone still staying home does so by personal choice, not because of fear or insecurity. Anambra is safe and active on Mondays,” he added.

Soludo commended Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB for disowning the sit-at-home campaign, blaming its continuation on criminal elements who hijacked the movement to terrorize innocent people.

While affirming citizens’ rights to peaceful protest, the governor maintained that his primary duty is governance, not activism.

“Everyone in a democracy has the freedom to express themselves, but my responsibility as governor is to govern. Let activists do their work, and I’ll do mine,” he said.

He revealed that he had previously urged Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other South-East leaders to engage Kanu in dialogue once released, stressing that no single person holds exclusive authority over the future of the Igbo nation.

“I’ve said it before — let Nnamdi Kanu sit with everyone else. We are all Igbos with equal rights to our opinions and vision for our people,” Soludo stated.

Rejecting separatist sentiments, Soludo reaffirmed his belief in a united and interdependent Nigeria, declaring that the Igbo cannot thrive in isolation.

“The Igbo man needs Nigeria, and Nigeria needs the Igbo man. We are an itinerant and industrious people who cannot afford to be intolerant. That’s my conviction,” he concluded.
