In an interview with Sun, the popular preacher disclosed that he has remained a virgin, choosing to wait until marriage to have sexual relations. He credited Rev. Fr. Luke Odinkemmelu, who advised him in his youth to stay celibate until marriage to uphold God’s grace and power in his life.

“He told me not to have sex until I marry and that to maintain God’s grace, I must remain celibate until then,” Obi shared. “The reverend father’s guidance has sustained me. I promised God I would remain a virgin until marriage, and I have kept that promise.”

Evangelist Obi also shared that his ministry, Zion, is purely a prayer movement, not a church, and that Fr. Odinkemmelu advised him against starting his own church.

“He saw me speaking to millions but insisted I should not leave the Catholic Church,” Obi recounted. “He advised against opening a church, being money-minded, or engaging in premarital sex. Following these principles has guided my journey.”
