Governor Uzodimma, who is seeking re-election as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 11 election, has allegedly authorized members of the APC to inundate Imo residents with unsolicited phone calls, imploring them for votes.
In a statement, Ikenna Onuoha, the spokesperson of the Imo PDP, raised concerns about the apparent attempt to institutionalize vote-buying in the state. The statement reads:
“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial Campaign Council in Imo state has been drawn to a clandestine move by the All Progressive Congress and Hope Uzodinma to legalize vote buying in the state.
This time, Uzodinma is said to have delegated members of APC to incessantly bombard Imo people with unsolicited phone calls, begging for votes and promising to financially reward them for each vote cast for APC.”
The Imo PDP questioned Uzodimma’s moral stance in seeking votes from Imo residents after imposing policies detrimental to their welfare and showing disregard for their concerns.
The statement further queries why, if Uzodimma and the APC are confident of victory, they are resorting to soliciting votes and contacting citizens without authorization.
The PDP’s Sam-Jones Gubernatorial Campaign Council called on Uzodimma and the APC to cease their alleged begging for votes, especially after the governor failed to apologize to the people of Imo for alleged harassment, intimidation, and mistreatment.
