Hours after Chicago University and Reno Omokri confirmed that President Tinubu attended the university in 1979, Atiku, the presidential candidate, took to Twitter, questioning inconsistencies in Tinubu’s early education. He tweeted, “In 1999, @officialABAT stated he attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, then Children Home School in Ibadan, followed by Government College Ibadan and later Richard Daley College and Chicago State University in the US. However, in 2023, Tinubu only mentioned @ChicagoState. How did he bypass primary and secondary education but obtain a university degree? #AskTinubu for clarity on this educational marvel. -AA

The Intricate Dance of Politics: President Tinubu, Atiku, and the Shifting Dynamics of Nigerian Politics from the Late ’90s to 2015
1. The Early Collaborations: Late ’90s The late 1990s marked the beginning of an era when Nigeria was in the throes of transitioning to a new democratic system, following decades of military rule. It was in this backdrop that two significant figures emerged: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who would later become a linchpin of Southwest politics, was instrumental in helping Atiku Abubakar navigate the turbulent waters of Nigerian politics. While Tinubu successfully secured his position as the Governor of Lagos State, Atiku, with his affiliations with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the backing of political godfathers like Tinubu, managed to ascend to the Vice-Presidential position alongside President Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ). 2. The Rift between Atiku and Obasanjo: Early 2000s However, political alliances, especially in the Nigerian context, are often ephemeral. The initially warm relationship between President Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku soon began to thaw. The rift reportedly stemmed from disagreements over power distribution, policies, and future political aspirations. It became evident that while both occupied the highest seats in the land, their visions and political trajectories were markedly different.
3. The Imposition of Yar’Adua: The Mid-2000s Transition The discord between Atiku and Obasanjo reached its zenith when the latter, towards the end of his second term, actively began searching for a successor. In a move seen by many as a way to diminish Atiku’s influence and potential presidential aspirations, Obasanjo threw his weight behind Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, effectively imposing him as the PDP’s candidate for the presidency. This move sidelined Atiku, pushing him to the peripheries of the party’s central decision-making processes.
4. Atiku’s Appeal to Tinubu: 2007 Elections Feeling cornered and marginalized within the PDP due to Obasanjo’s maneuvers, Atiku turned to old allies for support. In the run-up to the 2007 elections, he approached Tinubu, seeking assistance to rejuvenate his political career and to challenge the establishment that had turned against him. While they had been on different sides of the political divide, their shared history and the ever-fluid nature of Nigerian politics meant that collaborations were always a possibility.
5. The Rivalry Until 2015 However, as the years went on, the relationship between Atiku and Tinubu underwent multiple transformations. The mutual respect they once shared gradually turned into a rivalry. As 2015 approached, both political heavyweights eyed the presidency, effectively becoming competitors. The collaborations of the late ’90s seemed a distant memory as both aimed to consolidate their positions and spheres of influence in the Nigerian polity.
In the chessboard of Nigerian politics, where shifting allegiances are the norm, the journey of Tinubu and Atiku from collaborators to competitors provides a fascinating insight into the intricacies of power dynamics, ambition, and the unpredictable nature of political relationships.
Fast forward to today Tinubu is the president as declared by INEC and Atiku still remains a presidential candidate, only time we tell what the future holds.
Take a look at some reactions to the tweet tagged as weird and absurd below:
One Twitter user, Jeffery claimed: “Instead of you to #AskTinubu how he was able to win every election he has participated in at the very first attempt, you decided to become a comic relief on Elon Musk’s app. What a sad ending to a never promising political career.”
Another tweeted: “Sunday Morning Vawulence.”
Iyalaya: “Welcome to the club of retired politicians turned influencers, sir. Please, how much do you charge per tweet?.”
Joseph: “Atiku has turned to David hundeyin lite.”
Famous APC supporter Ayekootoo tweeted: “Atiku met Tinubu at the Camp of Shehu Musa Yar’adua in 1990. Two years after, Tinubu started climbing, he started with Senate, Atiku started jumping, Tinubu stepped up to Senate, Atiku bounced down. In 1999, Tinubu took his second step to be governor, Atiku also learned to take steps, he took two steps at once and became Adamawa Governor Elect when Tinubu also won Lagos Governorship election. OBJ invited Atiku to be his VP, Atiku left his “small mandate” and jumped again as he did in 1993, this time around OBJ held him so that he wouldn’t fall again. While Tinubu was developing his Lagos and SW base, Atiku thought he only had one step more to take and become President. Tinubu was spreading his tentacles gradually, Atiku was investing in fetishism. One day, he waged a war against the man who held him so he wouldn’t fall, that one removed him from his shoulders, he fell, as he was about to hit the floor, Tinubu held him so that he wouldn’t be totally grounded. While on Tinubu’s shoulder in 2017, Atiku ran for Presidency, meanwhile, the man on whose shoulder he hanged on didn’t run for any office, in fact Tinubu stepped down for one of his proteges in a senatorial election. After he lost in 2007, he ran back to the PDP and jumped again, Jonathan gave him a bloody nose in their primaries. By 2015, he ran away from PDP again, he ran back to Tinubu, too late. He met Buhari at the back of Jagaban. Still he’s too desperate to understand sign language. He ran against Buhari in the primaries and came distant third!!! By 2019, he jumped to the PDP whose former Presidents are inconsequential. Again, Buhari beat him like an uneaten snake. By 2022, Jagaban was one step away from the Villa, he declared to run for Presidency for the first time since he and Atiku joined politics. Tinubu walked majestically to the Villa in 2023 because he was taking his steps one after the other, from Senate to Governorship, from Governorship to national politics and spreading of tentacles with unprecedented quality achievements and unparalleled human resources development, and now to the villa. Atiku jumped again in 2023 and hit his head on the floor, reason he’s asking Chicago State University a cr@zy question. It is over for Atiku, he should focus totally on his mental health, at least he shouldn’t lose two things at the same time.”
Christopboy: “When you went to Asiwaju in 2011 to give you platform to be President, you didn’t wonder. When you teamed up with Asiwaju in 2015, you didn’t wonder then. Now Asiwaju has defeated you, you’ve started wondering. Continue wondering. Wonder man.”
