Clark emphasized the crucial role played by the Ijaw community, including himself, in elevating Wike’s political career. As Amaechi’s era concluded, there was a widespread consensus among Rivers Ijaws that it was their rightful turn to govern the state.
In a letter dated June 9, 2024, addressed to Senator George Sekibo and made public in Abuja, Clark cautioned against overstating Wike’s influence in Ijaw politics. He highlighted the Ijaw community’s insistence on fair representation, expressing concern over potential exclusion after a prolonged period.
Clark pointed out that Jonathan had advocated for Wike during an election year while seeking a return to national office, urging for fairness and peace. He criticized Wike for inconsistencies in his political stance, contrasting his previous commitments in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries with subsequent actions.
The letter, also shared with key figures like President Bola Tinubu, SGF Senator George Akume, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, addresses recent developments in Rivers politics, including claims of Wike’s support for the Ijaw community amidst ongoing political challenges.
