It Was Never Fair’ – Obidients Rally Behind Obi, Slam ADC Over Deadline Drama
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has praised the decision of presidential hopefuls Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, Tanko described their defection as a bold and necessary step.
He explained that the move was driven by what he called a toxic political climate, noting that legal complications and limited timelines within the ADC made it difficult for them to remain viable candidates. According to him, the decision was aimed at protecting democracy and strengthening the opposition.
“There is a toxic situation in our political system, though not specifically targeted at the ADC. For Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and others, this was a courageous step that deserves recognition if we are to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy,” he said.
Tanko highlighted the tight electoral timeline as a major concern, pointing out that there were only a few days between May 4 and the May 10 deadline for submissions.
He argued that within such a short window, it would be nearly impossible to resolve legal disputes through the Federal High Court, Appeal Court, and Supreme Court processes.
“In practical terms, you cannot complete all legal proceedings within five days. It becomes unrealistic,” he explained.
He concluded that the situation effectively created a disadvantage for Obi’s candidacy, describing it as a “trap,” and added that members of the Obidient Movement fully support the decision to exit the ADC in order to protect their political aspirations and democratic ideals.
