The latest assault comes amid a broader security crisis in Kogi State. Earlier reports by SaharaReporters revealed that the Ayetoro-Kiri community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area was thrown into mourning after three abducted residents died, despite a large ransom being paid through communal contributions.

Although seven abductees were eventually released, three arrived dead, while four others were hospitalized and reportedly fighting for their lives. Around 30 residents of Ayetoro-Kiri are still in captivity, with their fate uncertain.

In a statement signed by the community spokesperson, David Ampitan, residents accused authorities of failing to take decisive action to protect lives, rescue the kidnapped victims, or apprehend the perpetrators. The statement further alleged that instead of responding to their pleas for help, the Kogi State Government, through the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, allegedly targeted the community by tear-gassing and arresting peaceful protesters demanding security, justice, and the release of abducted relatives.
