MC Oluomo’s Claims As NURTW Member False, Tinubu Should Address The Issue
MC Oluomo’s Claims As NURTW Member False, Tinubu Should Address The IssueOlalekan Folorunsho, the Southwest Zonal Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), popularly known as Lekan Salami, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to intervene and address the ongoing actions of Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo. Salami’s call follows recent developments surrounding a controversial election in Osogbo, Osun State, where a faction declared MC Oluomo as the NURTW President—an election that was later invalidated by the Appeal Court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
On November 8, the appellate court upheld a ruling by the National Industrial Court from March 2024, reaffirming Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa’s position as the legitimate National President of the NURTW.
MC Oluomo Not a Member of NURTW
In a statement issued on Monday, Salami condemned the ongoing “gangsterism” within the union and reiterated that MC Oluomo is not a recognized member of the NURTW. Salami explained that Oluomo had officially renounced his membership in 2022 after being queried by the national leadership and had even torn up his NURTW identity card at the time.
Salami further emphasized that the NURTW has no record of MC Oluomo rejoining the union, highlighting the constitutional requirement for returning members to submit a formal written request to the national leadership. This process includes approval starting at the unit chairman level, followed by a mandatory two-year waiting period before seeking higher office—criteria that MC Oluomo has not fulfilled.
“It is disheartening that MC Oluomo continues to act as though he is a member of the union, despite having left in 2022. The union’s constitution is clear, and his actions lack legitimacy,” Salami stated.
Warning Against Impersonation in Osun
Salami also addressed allegations against Alhaji Moshood Ajao, a former NURTW secretary, who had been claiming leadership in Osun State. Salami clarified that only former state chairmen are recognized as legitimate leaders according to the NURTW’s constitution, naming himself and Alhaji Nasiru Komolafe as the rightful leaders in Osun.
He issued a stern warning to Ajao, urging him to cease impersonating a union leader, labeling such actions as unacceptable and detrimental to the union’s unity.
Osogbo Election Dismissed as Illegitimate
Salami also dismissed the Osogbo election as illegitimate, pointing out that several key southwestern states, including Osun, Oyo, and Lagos, were not represented in the election, and Ogun State had ongoing factional disputes. He accused Chief Omotayo Falope (Oloforo) and Mustapha Ismail (Yaro Ade) of betraying the union by supporting MC Oluomo’s faction.
“The election of Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa was legitimate and held in Ekiti. Those who now oppose him were part of that process, and we have evidence to prove it,” Salami asserted.
Call for Federal Government Action
Salami has called on the Federal Government to take decisive action against MC Oluomo to preserve the rule of law and uphold the integrity of the judiciary. He emphasized that the judiciary’s decision, which affirmed Baruwa’s leadership, must be respected.
“I believe the government will not condone this gangsterism. The judiciary’s decision affirming Baruwa’s leadership must be respected,” Salami said.
Salami reiterated the NURTW’s support for Baruwa’s leadership, stressing that the Appeal Court’s recent ruling provides a clear mandate for stability and continuity within the union.
