In October 2024, reports revealed that LPG prices surged to around ₦1,500 per kilogram, a sharp rise from ₦700 per kilogram in June 2023—representing a 114% increase over 16 months.

However, recent figures indicate a slight dip in prices. As of February 7, 2025, depot prices for a 20 metric ton (MT) load were as follows:

  • NIPCO: ₦19,400,000
  • NAVGAS: ₦19,500,000

These depot rates equate to roughly ₦1,200 to ₦1,300 per kilogram, depending on the supplier. Retail prices, however, may differ due to factors such as location, transportation costs, and retailer markups.

Several factors contribute to these price fluctuations, including global energy trends, exchange rate instability, and domestic supply issues. With over 60% of Nigeria’s LPG being imported, the market remains highly sensitive to international price changes and foreign exchange rates.
