According to NITDA, this initiative aligns with the country’s strategic priorities of economic reform and diversification, aiming to foster inclusive growth and industrialization through digitization. The commitment was underscored during a meeting at NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja, where Director-General Kashifu Inuwa CCIE hosted a delegation led by Mr. Aleksandar Stojanov from the World Bank and WTO.
Inuwa highlighted NITDA’s strategic roadmap, SRAP 2.0 for 2024-2027, which focuses on strengthening policy implementation and creating an enabling environment for digital economy and trade. He emphasized ongoing efforts to establish a National Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to support electronic signatures, incorporating international best practices and significant infrastructure investments.
In addition, NITDA is advocating for a comprehensive digital economy bill to integrate critical regulatory frameworks, including electronic signatures and blockchain technology for enhancing transaction security and efficiency. Plans for a national data exchange platform were also discussed, aimed at optimizing messaging systems while balancing data protection and innovation.
Mr. Stojanov shared insights from the World Bank’s digital trade regulatory analysis in Nigeria, highlighting regulatory gaps and emphasizing the bank’s commitment to collaborate with NITDA in advancing digital trade and cross-border data services.
The collaboration aims to leverage global expertise and resources to propel Nigeria’s digital economy forward, promoting innovation and decision-making through accessible open data.
