The heartbreaking act was accompanied by a handwritten note, shared on social media by a user named Just Society. In the note, Amarachu expressed the profound challenges she faced in life, citing extreme hardship, economic difficulties, and a bleak future as contributing factors to her decision. The note conveyed her apologies to her family, including her parents, and individuals close to her.

This tragic incident echoes a concerning trend, as mental health issues and suicide cases have been on the rise in recent times. In a similar event reported by Bushradiogist in November 2023, a final-year student of the University of Lagos, Olatunji Olayinka Emmanuel, took his own life by ingesting insecticide. The university’s public relations officer confirmed the incident, stating that the student had registered and paid for the current semester before his demise.

The somber news also includes the death of Mallam Abdullahi Ardo, a tricenarian, who reportedly committed suicide in Bauchi State a few days before Olatunji’s tragic incident. These instances highlight the pressing need for increased awareness, mental health support, and community interventions to address the underlying issues contributing to such distressing outcomes in Nigeria.
