Bello stated that tampered mudus not only mislead customers by providing less than what they paid for but also undermine trust in the market. “This unethical behavior damages market integrity and exacerbates the hardships faced by many people,” he said.

Failure to adhere to regulations will result in severe penalties, including arrest and prosecution. Barrister Sani Haruna, Chairman of Gombe LGA, clarified that the visit aimed to educate traders rather than conduct arrests. He criticized the practice of using tampered measurement tools while maintaining high prices, even when wholesale costs decrease.

Haruna assured that the local government is working on implementing new, standardized measurement tools to ensure fairness in trading. “A universal measurement standard will be established, and any deviation will be met with penalties,” he added.

Market buyers welcomed the NSCDC’s intervention. Usman Bappah, a customer purchasing grains, praised the efforts to enforce transparency and fairness. “It is crucial for our leaders to ensure that fairness prevails in all sectors, which will contribute to meaningful development,” Bappah said.
