Olayinka, who contested as the primary opposition candidate for the House of Representatives in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 during the last National Assembly election, contended that the opposition party should take responsibility for its loss in the presidential election to the All Progressives Congress (APC)….CONTINUE READING
He expressed these views during appearances on various television shows, including TVC and Silverbird Television, on Friday.
Olayinka’s remarks were prompted by the validation of Bola Tinubu’s victory in the last presidential election by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
He remarked, “Pursuing legal action to challenge an election that the PDP should have easily won is a futile endeavor. How can you prove electoral malpractices across more than 176,000 polling units, especially when it is mandatory to present witnesses in all the polling units where irregularities are alleged?
“For instance, if you claim irregularities in 10,000 polling units, how can you bring 10,000 party agents to court as witnesses?
“Hence, it is more prudent to do everything possible within the boundaries of the law to secure a victory rather than waiting to lose and then resorting to the Tribunal.
“When a decision is made to sacrifice five governors for a single National Chairman, the inevitable result is failure.
“And after deliberately planning to fail, seeking the court’s intervention to rectify your own failure becomes counterproductive. Who engages in such a strategy?
“Instead of expending energy and resources in a series of court battles to retrieve an electoral victory that the opposition essentially forfeited, the focus should be on rebuilding for 2027, with younger Nigerians assuming leadership roles.”
