President Bola Tinubu is reportedly set to introduce an Executive Order aimed at preventing manufacturing firms from exiting the country due to perceived challenges in the operating environment. The proposed executive order, being formulated by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, as well as the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, will encompass practical solutions, immediate measures, and medium-to-long-term strategies to permanently address manufacturing issues. Following a meeting with medical syringe and needle manufacturers in Abuja, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed that an open dialogue with stakeholders had taken place. Alausa emphasized that an agreement had been reached in line with the president’s directive to lower the cost of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies in the country.

“We just had a very productive meeting with the needle and syringe manufacturers in Nigeria. We discussed practical solutions for quick wins, immediate measures for the upcoming executive order, and medium-to-long-term strategies to permanently resolve the challenges. Everyone was pleased, and we believe we’ve addressed all the issues to put this industry on a sustainable path, creating stable employment and ensuring high-quality needles and syringes for healthcare facilities,” stated Alausa.

Uzoka-Anite affirmed the president’s commitment to eliminating obstacles hindering economic industrialization and assured health device and instrument manufacturers that policy responses would expedite the outcomes of their discussions. She emphasized that the challenges facing the manufacturing sector were surmountable through minor policy adjustments, underscoring the importance of engaging with industry stakeholders to implement effective government interventions.
