This commitment was expressed during a meeting between Mamman and the leadership of the committee of Provosts of Colleges of Education in Abuja on Tuesday. The minister assured a consistent and positive engagement with the committee, aiming to foster industrial peace and harmony within the nation’s colleges of education.

Additionally, the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, praised the positive approach of the colleges of education’s leadership. Sununu pledged that the Ministry would reciprocate this positive collaboration, working towards establishing a harmonious relationship with all colleges of education nationwide.

Sununu urged the leadership of the colleges and relevant stakeholders to align their efforts with the ministry to enhance student enrollment in these institutions. He emphasized that this collaboration would ensure a steady supply of qualified teachers at the foundational levels of the country’s educational system.

Reiterating the Ministry’s dedication to creating incentives for teachers and mobilizing enrollment in colleges of education, Sununu highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve the educational landscape.

In an appeal made by the chairman of the committee, Prof. Faruk Haruna, the minister was urged to facilitate the implementation of the presidential directive, specifically aiming to exempt colleges of education from the IPPIS. Notably, President Tinubu endorsed the exit of public universities from the IPPIS on December 12, 2023, as reported by NAN. It’s worth noting that in October 2022, ASUU rejected the continuous use of IPPIS for the payment of university lecturers’ entitlements.
