The proposed amendments target Sections 7, 135, 137, 180, and 182(1) of the current constitution. Clause 2 of the bill proposes adding a new subsection (5) to Section 7, mandating Local Government Chairmen to vacate office after a single six-year term.

Clause 3 aims to modify Section 135 by replacing instances of “four” with “six,” thereby establishing a six-year single tenure for the President, with provisions for re-run elections and wartime extensions by the National Assembly.

Clause 4 proposes changes to Section 137 by deleting specific paragraphs and renumbering accordingly, while Clause 5 seeks to amend Section 180 by replacing existing subsections with new provisions.
