The latest adjustment follows earlier price reductions by independent marketers, including MRS, BOVAS and AA Rano, which reviewed their pump prices in the Federal Capital Territory to between ₦739 and ₦865 per litre.
The downward review by NNPCL and other marketers comes in the wake of significant price cuts by the Dangote Refinery and depot operators, who reduced ex-depot prices to a range of ₦699 to ₦800 per litre.
The development followed an announcement by the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, that a petrol price of ₦739 per litre would be firmly enforced from Tuesday, beginning with MRS Oil and Gas outlets.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Dangote assured Nigerians that consumers would begin to feel the benefits of the recent price reductions.
“From Tuesday, MRS will start selling petrol at ₦739 per litre, and we will ensure that price is enforced,” he said. “Anyone with a truck can come directly to the refinery to purchase at ₦699 per litre. That price already includes the NMDPRA margin, meaning our net price is about ₦389.”
Dangote added that the company is committed to ensuring the impact of the price cuts is reflected at the pump nationwide.
