It has come to light that certain directors and other senior staff members who are due for retirement within the Federal Ministry of Education and its affiliated agencies are actively pursuing redeployment to secondary schools to take advantage of the extended retirement age for teachers.
Furthermore, our investigation has unveiled instances of senior civil servants, upon reaching the age of 60, successfully transitioning into teaching roles at federal government colleges.
One such example involves a senior staff member, whose identity is being withheld, who has been relocated to a federal government college in Abuja.
Sources indicate that this manipulation is primarily driven by the desire to benefit from the extended retirement age of 65, which was endorsed during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
It’s worth recalling that on the occasion of the 2020 World Teachers Day, former President Muhammadu Buhari pledged to grant Nigerian teachers a new retirement age.
