Emphasizing the link between a peaceful environment and sustainable development, Ibas called for intensified efforts to suppress criminal activities. He made these remarks during a meeting with paramilitary leaders at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Acknowledging their vital role in crime prevention, Ibas praised their ongoing efforts to ensure peace in Rivers State. He stated, “There cannot be any meaningful development without a thriving peaceful environment. Efforts must be intensified to ensure that criminal elements are not emboldened to cause insecurity.”

Ibas encouraged paramilitary heads to actively engage in joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks within the state. He warned that when legitimate businesses are disrupted by criminal acts, criminals gain control, stalling the state’s growth.

“If people are unable to conduct their lawful business as guaranteed by our laws, they lose out, and criminals take over control of the state. Therefore, I need your commitment in all aspects of maintaining law and order. In performing your duties, always prioritize the interest of Nigeria and the people of Rivers State,” he advised.

Ibas also highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue between security agencies and the community to enhance intelligence gathering. This approach, he believes, will help address issues such as kidnapping, illegal activities, and communal disputes.

Additionally, Ibas raised concerns about unregistered or concealed license plates on vehicles, stressing the security risks they pose. He also addressed road safety, citing overturned tankers caused by poor road conditions or negligence of other road users.
