In a response following the directives of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC), the APC National Working Committee recently added six members to its ranks.
This decision aimed to empower the party’s administrative body to fill vacancies within the NWC and zonal positions.
The newly elected officials comprise Ali Bukar Dalori (Borno State) as Deputy National Chairman, North; Garba Datti Muhammad (Kaduna State) as National Vice Chairman, North West; Prof.
Abdul Karim Abubakar Kana (Nasarawa State) as National Legal Adviser; Donatus Nwankpa (Abia State) as National Welfare Secretary; Mary Alile Idele, PhD (Edo State) as National Woman Leader; and Duro Meseko (Kogi State) as Deputy National Publicity Secretary.
Additionally, Ikani Shuaibu Okolo (Kogi State) is the new Zonal Organizing Secretary for the North Central chapter of the party.
However, a dispute has arisen with the selection of Mary Alile Idele from Edo State as the National Women Leader (South South Zone), in place of Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo, who was the candidate of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu.
Furthermore, Duro Meseko (Kogi State) was chosen as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary (North Central Zone) to replace Yakubu Ajaka. This decision allegedly goes against the recommendation of Governor Bello.
These developments prompted Beta Edu to protest at the party secretariat, expressing dissatisfaction with her candidate’s exclusion. Governor Yahaya Bello’s early morning arrival on Thursday further intensified tensions around the secretariat.
Addressing the press, Governor Bello emphasized his stance, stating, “This issue must be sorted out today. I won’t back down until the mistake is rectified.”
