The ceremony was held at Dover Air Force Base, the facility where the remains of U.S. service members who die overseas are traditionally received.

Trump, wearing a white “USA” baseball cap and accompanied by several members of his cabinet, stood at attention and saluted as each flag-draped transfer case was carried off a military transport aircraft.

The six troops were killed last Sunday when a drone strike hit a key U.S. command centre in Kuwait.

The attack came a day after the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against Iran, intensifying tensions across the region.

Meanwhile, Iran’s military urged neighbouring Azerbaijan to expel what it described as “Zionists” from its territory in order to prevent further instability in the region.

The statement followed accusations by Azerbaijan that Tehran had been planning attacks within its borders.

“We declare to Iran’s neighbouring country, the Republic of Azerbaijan, as a Muslim country, to expel the Zionists from that country in order to prevent the spread of insecurity in the region and not to endanger the security of its people and Islamic Iran,” an Iranian military spokesman said.

Israel maintains close relations with Azerbaijan and is one of its major arms suppliers. Tehran has long accused Israel of using Azerbaijani territory to conduct intelligence operations against Iran.

On Friday, Azerbaijan announced that it had thwarted several alleged Iranian plots on its soil, including plans targeting a major oil pipeline, a synagogue, and leaders within the Jewish community.

Tehran has not formally responded to those claims.
