Tensions Soar In PDP: Abia Chapter Rejects National Publicity Secretary’s Attempt To Overturn Wabara Suspension

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed the suspension of Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP Chairman, made this clear while responding to a statement from the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, who had dismissed Wabara’s suspension. Amah asserted that the Abia State Executive Committee adhered strictly to constitutional procedures in suspending Wabara, making the decision both valid and legally binding.
Wabara was suspended on Tuesday by the Abia State PDP and barred from holding any party office. The decision followed a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting chaired by Amah Abraham. The Abia PDP accused Wabara of engaging in anti-party activities and failing to apologize despite being given an opportunity. The party described Wabara’s behavior as unbecoming of a former Senate President and BoT Chairman.
In contrast, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP declared Wabara’s suspension null and void. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the NWC emphasized that no State Working Committee has the authority to suspend or discipline a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) without proper recourse to the NWC, as outlined in Section 57 (7) of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017).
The PDP labeled Wabara’s suspension as reckless and unconstitutional, warning those involved to retract their actions or face disciplinary measures aimed at safeguarding the party’s stability and constitutional integrity.
In response, Amah dismissed Ologunagba’s statement, claiming he spoke in a personal capacity, not on behalf of the NWC. He stressed that Ologunagba’s comments hold no binding authority over the Abia PDP’s decision, and the state chapter would not hesitate to pursue legal action if necessary.
Amah further argued that Wabara’s role as BoT Chairman does not exempt him from disciplinary action when he violates party rules.
