Victory Is Ours! Okpebholo Declares APC Supreme In Edo, Says PDP Is On Life Support

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has predicted the imminent downfall of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, citing a wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Governor made this assertion during a courtesy visit by Nicholas Asonsere, the lawmaker representing Ikpoba Okha State Constituency, who recently dumped the PDP for the APC.
With Asonsere’s defection, the APC now holds a clear majority in the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), boasting 15 members compared to the PDP’s nine.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Governor Okpebholo welcomed the new APC members, assuring them of equal opportunities and appreciation within the party.
He stated, “Thank you for choosing to join the APC. This is the winning party and you will have no regrets. Our party offers limitless opportunities, and we stand by our members.”
The Governor went on to share his own journey, revealing that he never intended to run for any political office when he joined the APC. “I was encouraged by people who wanted progress to run for senator and later governor — and today, here we are,” he said.
Okpebholo expressed confidence that the PDP would soon lose relevance in the state, attributing APC’s growing popularity to its focus on development and good governance.
He stressed that his administration is dedicated to using state resources — including Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) — to bring tangible improvements to the lives of Edo people.
“The PDP will soon collapse in Edo because of what the APC represents. My focus is on development and I won’t be distracted. Every kobo meant for Edo will be used to improve the state and the well-being of our people,” he said.
The Governor also pointed out that since taking office, he has avoided foreign trips to concentrate on Edo’s development priorities.
He further criticized his predecessor, former Governor Godwin Obaseki, accusing him of misleading the public about progress in the state’s education sector.
