The police initially invited Ajaero for questioning on August 19 in response to accusations of his involvement in these serious charges. The session was attended by prominent human rights activists such as Femi Falana, SAN, Maxwell Opara, and Deji Adeyanju, as well as officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The police inquiry centered on the Iva Valley Bookshop, located on the second floor of Labour House, which was alleged to be connected to the criminal activities. Ajaero denied any involvement, stating that his relationship with the bookshop operator was purely as a landlord, with no direct association or communication with the NLC.
A source told Vanguard that Ajaero expressed frustration during the interrogation, particularly over being addressed by his personal name rather than his official title as NLC President. The source described the session as a “friendly chat,” implying that the police inquiry was brief and lacked substantial engagement.
