According to an undisclosed senior military source speaking to Channels Television, the troops’ superior firepower compelled the bandits to relinquish their hostages and retreat in disorder.
The source revealed that 10 armed bandits were rendered ineffective, with an unspecified number of them escaping with gunshot injuries.
In their bid to evade the military’s pursuit, a number of the bandits reportedly met their demise by drowning in a marshy river, while two were apprehended alive during the chase.
The operation yielded the recovery of six AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, and five ammunition magazines from the criminals.
Additionally, the troops discovered 20 rounds of specialized 7.62mm ammunition, three mobile phones, two solar panels, a sewing machine, and a sum of N2,410,000 cash in possession of the bandits.
Among the nine liberated kidnap victims, all hailing from Sokoto State, one female victim unfortunately lost her life during the firefight with the bandits.
The remaining rescued individuals were handed over to the appropriate authorities for reuniting with their families.
