In an interview with Why Not Afrika, Obi discussed the economic decline in the Onitsha area of the River Niger. He noted that the region was once a thriving economic hub, thanks to infrastructure established by the colonial administration. However, Nigerian leaders have allowed these assets to fall into disrepair.

He criticized the current leadership for their lack of concern for societal development, labeling the wasted resources as a significant failure of post-colonial governance.
