The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has assigned a special investigative team to probe the serious allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, of conspiring to assassinate her. Reacting to the accusations, Akpabio submitted a formal petition to the IGP dated April 3, which was also copied to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Describing the allegations as “defamatory,” the Senate President called on law enforcement agencies to take appropriate legal action to ensure peace and guarantee his personal safety.

Confirming the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, told The Nation that the IGP had acted promptly on the petition.

“Yes, we have received the petition from the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. The IGP has directed a team to investigate it,” Adejobi confirmed.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan made the accusations during a homecoming address to her constituents on April 1. She alleged that the plot to eliminate her followed a failed attempt to initiate her recall from the Senate.

According to her, a formal complaint had already been lodged with the police before she went public with the claims.

“In the evening of March 13, at about 10:00 p.m., Akpabio reportedly called Governor Ododo to commence my recall,” she stated. “However, Ododo declined, saying the recall was unfeasible because of my strong support among the people. Unsatisfied, Akpabio allegedly contacted Yahaya Bello to take up the task.”

She further alleged that the meeting had two objectives: to fund her recall and to orchestrate her assassination.

“I’ve submitted a letter to the Inspector-General of Police detailing this plot. Akpabio allegedly instructed Yahaya Bello that if I were to be killed, it should happen in my state—not Abuja—so it would appear as if it were the handiwork of the local populace,” she claimed.
