Tension Rises: Taraba Faces Total Halt As Labour Declares Monday Strike
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have vowed not to bow to alleged threats from state government officials aimed at stopping their planned indefinite strike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This declaration was made during a joint press briefing by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman Sule Abasu.
According to the unions, the strike action stems from alleged irregularities in the state’s biometric data capture exercise, which they claim wrongfully excluded some legitimate employees and labelled them as ghost workers. They accused the committee overseeing the process of engaging in unlawful practices and criticised the state government for ignoring a prior ultimatum.
The unions stated:
“Following our meeting held today, 10th August 2025, at the NLC Secretariat by 3:00 pm, we resolved that the strike will commence at midnight tomorrow, 11th August 2025.
This decision is due to the government’s failure to address the irregularities in the biometric exercise, which unjustly excluded some workers and classified them as ghost workers.
Threats do not concern us; our focus is on the welfare of our members, and the strike stands.”
