He mentioned that the NCM, a coalition of community-based socio-cultural and economically focused northern organizations, also expressed its support for the Abia State government’s decision to transform the cattle market into a daily, non-residential facility.
Governor Otti assured all northerners and individuals from different ethnic backgrounds residing in Abia State that they are welcome and safe.
He shared, “I had a productive meeting today with the leadership of the Northern Consensus Movement (NCM), which represents an alliance of community-based socio-cultural and economically oriented northern organizations. This coalition had previously issued a quit notice to Igbo residents in the North in response to the Umuchieze Cattle Market matter at Lokpanta, Umunneochi L.G.A.
“I am delighted to announce that the NCM has retracted the ultimatum and has conveyed their understanding and support for the Abia State government’s decision to transform the cattle market into a daily, non-residential operation.
This choice is made in the best interest of the market’s traders and residents, as well as the state’s overall security and well-being.
The President of the group, Comrade Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, acknowledged that the government’s decision was initially misinterpreted but was later recognized to be in the best interest and security of all parties involved.”
