In a post on his handle on Sunday, Garba alleged that local governments had been reduced to Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) for state governors, lacking true independence despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on autonomy.

“One of the most inefficient, ineffective back pockets of some state governors is the local government councils. Local governments take their legislation from state assemblies, and you know what that means. Autonomy or not, LGs remain ATMs of some governors,” he wrote.

Garba proposed that authority at the grassroots level be transferred to traditional rulers, who, he maintained, were better positioned to manage local governance in line with cultural values.
