The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, arrived in Dakar earlier today, April 8, nearly a month after the governing body shocked the continent by stripping Senegal of its AFCON title and awarding it to Morocco.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Motsepe had earlier confirmed the planned visit in late March, stating that he would travel to both countries to promote unity and cooperation as CAF faces mounting criticism. During his visit, he is expected to meet with Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, at the presidential palace, followed by a press conference.

The visit comes at a tense time, following CAF’s controversial decision to overturn Senegal’s 1–0 victory over host nation Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final held on January 18. On March 17, CAF ruled the match in favour of Morocco with a 3–0 scoreline, citing regulations related to teams walking off the pitch.

The controversy originated from events in Rabat, where Senegal’s players, along with head coach Pape Thiaw and his technical staff, walked off during added time after Morocco were awarded a penalty. Although Moroccan forward Brahim Díaz missed the spot kick, the incident sparked widespread debate and ongoing controversy.

In response, the Senegalese Football Federation has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, seeking to overturn the decision.

The Senegalese government has also reacted strongly, calling for an international investigation into alleged corruption within African football’s governing system.

Motsepe previously addressed the matter, stating that CAF would respect and implement any ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, adding that his personal views on the issue were not relevant.
