Some former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, have encountered obstacles in their efforts to register as new APC members.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The issue stems from their failure to formally resign from their previous party, creating divisions among party leaders on how to handle their registration.
Sources revealed that the registration process for new APC members in Delta State has been clouded by confusion and disagreements. APC ward leaders in some areas of the state reportedly refused to register the defectors, insisting that they must provide proof of their resignation from the PDP before being accepted into the APC.
This requirement has caused delays, with many defectors unable to complete the registration process. In response, the APC state leadership intervened, instructing ward and local government leaders to disregard the absence of resignation letters from the defectors.
Meanwhile, PDP members who opposed the defection of Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa to the APC are determined to rebuild the party in the state. Over the weekend, local government and ward members of the PDP who rejected the leadership changes gathered to strategize on revitalizing the party’s influence.
Despite the defections, some PDP loyalists remain resolute and cautious about accepting the new APC members. The atmosphere between the old and new members is described as tense, with the two sides yet to fully integrate. A source noted, “The unity is still a work in progress; the old members are wary of the newcomers, while the newcomers remain cautious.”
