Kalu stressed that insufficient funding undermines their capacity to effectively carry out their missions, ultimately jeopardizing the well-being of numerous citizens, particularly those in vulnerable situations.

He made these statements during a meeting held in his office with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme and the European Union, focusing on the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme Phase Two.

According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, the Deputy Speaker underscored the significance of adequate funding in ensuring the proper functioning of institutions tasked with upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the welfare of citizens.

Kalu commended the RoLAC Programme’s commitment to securing adequate funding for these institutions and enhancing access to rights and justice for women, children, and vulnerable individuals in Nigeria.

He highlighted the rights-based legislations enacted by the National Assembly, including the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and the Discrimination Against Persons Prohibition Act.

These legislations, he noted, were established to guarantee justice, equity, and the protection of society’s most vulnerable members.
