Ekiti State House Of Assembly Passes Key Bills To Boost Development And Economy

These bills were passed following comprehensive deliberations within the Committee of the Whole and voice votes conducted by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye.
The first bill, known as the Ekiti State Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2023, received unanimous approval. It originated from the Committee on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, with Chairman Hon.
Femi Akindele presenting the report. This legislation seeks to establish state-owned electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems serving urban, semi-urban, and rural communities.
Additionally, it outlines provisions for electricity delivery through the Ekiti State Electricity Board and Ekiti State Power Company. Furthermore, it aims to create an enabling environment for private sector investment in electricity generation and distribution within the state.
The second bill passed, the Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2023, marks a notable achievement as the first private-sponsored bill endorsed by the Seventh Assembly.
This initiative, championed by Hon. Femi Fatunla, the representative for Ikole I, focuses on bolstering development and investment promotion efforts within the state.
During the plenary session, another bill concerning the repeal of the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency Law 2009 and the introduction of the Ekiti State Environmental Protection and Watershed Management Agency Law 2023, as well as related matters, was extensively discussed. The bill has been referred to the Committee on Environment for further legislative examination and scrutiny.
