Falana Demands Justice For Deceased Nasarawa Students, Blames Official Negligence....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Human rights advocate Femi Falana has attributed the tragic demise of two students at Nasarawa State University to what he terms “official negligence,” urging an immediate inquiry into the events surrounding the incident.

In a recent statement, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria stressed the importance of holding individuals accountable and providing compensation to the families affected by the loss of Grace Danladi and Rose Micheal, who tragically lost their lives during a chaotic stampede at a palliative distribution event organized by the state government on the university premises.

The chaotic scene resulted in numerous injuries among students vying for two 7.5 kg bags of rice and N5,000 each, distributed by Governor Abdullahi Sule. Falana criticized the lack of organization and foresight by university authorities, suggesting that the tragedy could have been averted had the distribution been conducted more orderly, perhaps through the students’ respective departments.

He highlighted the absence of essential precautions such as a standby ambulance and adequate medical facilities, leading to injured students being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, where two female students were pronounced dead.

Falana emphasized the urgency of prosecuting those responsible for the negligence and stressed the legal obligation of both the state government and university management to compensate the families of the deceased students. He referenced a similar incident in Lagos involving a stampede during rice distribution, emphasizing the need for lessons to be learned from such tragedies.

Calling for a swift investigation into allegations of criminal negligence, Falana urged the Nassarawa State police command to take action without delay. He also demanded compensation for the bereaved families, pointing out that the state government and university management are legally obligated to provide support in such circumstances.
