To address these challenges, Prof. Kehinde outlined the university’s commitment to revitalizing agriculture on a commercial scale, aiming to ensure an ample food supply for the entire country. The institution, endowed with approximately 10,200 hectares of land, is actively collaborating with the federal and state governments, as well as corporate organizations, to open up virgin land within its campus for agricultural development.
In line with the vision of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to tackle food security, FUNAAB has reactivated a staff farming scheme, allocating farm lands to interested staff. The university is engaged in commercial production of plantain suckers, fish fingerlings, juveniles, table-sized fish, broilers for frozen chicken, and rabbits. Additionally, the FUNAAB Integrated Ventures and Wood Processing Unit have been strengthened, with plans to establish a saw-milling plant.
Prof. Kehinde also highlighted the university’s recent achievements, including being ranked the best University of Agriculture in Africa and the 7th globally by the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 World University Rankings. Another ranking by Study Abroad Aide (SAA) placed FUNAAB as the 11th Best-Valued University for International Students among 149 universities in Nigeria.
In the past year, the institution established the Conflict Resolution and Policy Advisory Committee, the Career Services and Linkages Unit, and the University-Wide Equipment Maintenance Unit. Research activities have been intensified, with academic staff securing grants and participating in programs such as the TETFund Alliance for Innovative Research (TETFAIR).
Regarding graduation, Prof. Kehinde revealed that a total of 3,574 students would be graduating with Bachelor’s Degrees in various disciplines, including 122 with First-Class Honors, 1,540 in the Second Class Upper Division, 1,705 in the Second Class Lower Division, and 187 with Third-Class Degrees.
