Governor Mohammed said, “The IGP’s confirmation led to discussions about the Nigeria Police Force.
The President has formed a special committee to examine the gaps in Nigeria’s 1999 constitution, aiming to bring harmony and synergy, and enhance technology and manpower within the Nigerian Police Force.
“The committee is composed of the minister of police affairs, NSA, chairman of PSC, and the chairman of the NGF. They will collaborate to ensure that the Nigeria Police undergoes reforms.”
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State also commented, stating that the council recognized the absence of meaningful reforms in the police since its establishment in 1861.
He highlighted the committee’s aim to generate ideas that would result in a transformed Nigeria police force characterized by comprehensive reforms.
He stated, “The newly confirmed IGP is well-prepared, with an extensive and varied CV, rich experience, both intellectually and practically.
“He discussed policing in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for technology-driven and community-based policing, as well as ensuring budgetary provisions for community-based policing, which has proven to be highly effective.
“The issue of funding also arose, and this committee of four to five individuals will address these reform-related matters.
“We have observed that meaningful reforms have been lacking since the formation of the Nigeria Police Force.
