Manchester United Hit With £15.9m Compensation Claim Over Ruben Amorim Exit
Manchester United are reportedly facing a compensation payout of up to £15.9 million to former manager Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff following his dismissal earlier this year, according to financial disclosures filed in the United States.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Amorim, 41, was relieved of his duties on January 5 after just 14 months at the helm of Old Trafford. He departed alongside five members of his backroom team, bringing an abrupt end to a tenure that had shown promise but struggled to deliver consistent results in the Premier League.
Following his exit, Amorim held discussions with United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, and chief executive, Omar Berrada, resulting in an initial settlement of £10 million.
However, filings with the New York Stock Exchange reveal that the total compensation package could rise to £15.9 million, depending on contractual clauses and whether Amorim secures another managerial role within a specified timeframe.
When factoring in the costs associated with hiring and terminating him, the overall financial impact of Amorim’s brief spell at Old Trafford could reach £27 million.
In a related development, former United first-team coach Benni McCarthy spoke on the club’s decision to sign Rasmus Hojlund instead of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
McCarthy, who worked under Erik ten Hag, explained that while United were genuinely interested in Osimhen, concerns over the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ultimately influenced their choice.
“If you spend £100 million on a player, you don’t want to lose him for AFCON,” McCarthy told Newsday on the BBC World Service. “He would have been very successful, but missing him for key matches was a major concern. That’s why Victor Osimhen was taken off the list.”
Instead, United opted for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, signing him from Atalanta in August 2023 for £72 million. Hojlund scored 26 goals in 95 appearances before joining Napoli on loan last September.
