Nigerian businessman Obi Cubana has weighed in on the ongoing detention and legal battle involving Nnamdi Kanu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He shared his thoughts during a recent interview with BBC Igbo, where he stressed that the matter should be handled with fairness and in line with due legal process, rather than through pressure or force. According to him, resolving the situation requires patience and a step-by-step approach, expressing optimism that Kanu could eventually regain his freedom.
In his words, he maintained that the government should treat Kanu like any other citizen under the law, adding that the process must be gradual and lawful.
Kanu was initially arrested in 2015 by Nigerian authorities over allegations related to terrorism, treason, and operating an unlawful group. He was granted bail in 2017 but later left the country following a military operation in his hometown.
In 2021, he was rearrested abroad and brought back to Nigeria, a move that sparked legal controversies and public debate.
His trial later resumed, with the Federal Government accusing him of inciting violence through broadcasts and activities linked to his group.
Although a court of appeal discharged him in 2022 and raised concerns over how he was returned to Nigeria, the legal battle continued after fresh actions were taken to revive the charges.
The case dragged on for years, attracting widespread attention, particularly in the South-East, where supporters staged protests and enforced sit-at-home actions demanding his release.
In November 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Kanu on several terrorism-related charges, ruling that his actions contributed to unrest and violence, and subsequently sentenced him to life imprisonment.
