The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has explained why former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has not been sanctioned over alleged anti-party activities, stressing that no disciplinary action can be taken without a properly filed petition supported with evidence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

PDP’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, disclosed this in Abuja, noting that although the party has a disciplinary committee in place, no member has been penalized so far because no official petitions have been submitted.

“At our NEC meeting, we established a disciplinary committee chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi, with Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) as secretary. Their mandate is to address any case of misconduct or anti-party activity, regardless of the member’s status, and recommend appropriate sanctions,” Osuoha said.

He continued: “But up till today, no one has been sanctioned. People often ask why the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has not been disciplined. The truth is, it’s not enough to allege wrongdoing. A formal petition must be written and presented to the disciplinary committee.”

Osuoha further emphasized that petitioners must be ready to substantiate their claims and appear before the committee when the accused is invited.

“When a petition is filed, the petitioner must be willing to testify and present evidence. It cannot be based on general accusations,” he explained.

According to him, the difficulty in concluding disciplinary cases is not peculiar to the PDP but mirrors broader systemic challenges in Nigeria.

“This is the same problem we face in the wider Nigerian system. It’s not just about identifying wrongs, but seeing the process through to the end,” he added.
