She stressed that the fight against corruption must begin in the home, with mothers playing a pivotal role in the battle. “We must go beyond just wanting our voices heard and take on roles where our actions are impactful,” Senator Tinubu said. “As the saying goes, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ and in the same spirit, it takes the collective will of the entire nation to defeat corruption.”
The First Lady encouraged mothers to take their nurturing role seriously, pointing out that corruption affects every sector of society, from markets and private businesses to government institutions, the judiciary, and even religious organizations. She added that corruption knows no age barriers, and everyone, regardless of position, has a responsibility to combat it.
“This menace affects all of us, and it is for the future of our beloved country that we must remain resolute in fighting it. We cannot leave this battle to government agencies alone,” she said. “It is time for us to take our place as mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, leaders, and reformers to make a difference. Women are nurturers, but we have allowed our children to raise themselves, often using the excuse of providing a better life for them.”
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the ICPC, reiterated the commission’s commitment to winning the fight against corruption. He highlighted the importance of involving mothers, youth, and other key stakeholders in the effort.
The event also featured goodwill messages from various organizations, including representatives from the youth sector, the Code of Conduct Bureau, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and security agencies. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stressed the crucial role mothers play in ensuring that corruption is not passed on to the next generation.
Kogi State’s Commissioner for Youth Affairs also emphasized that students must transition from protesting to actively participating in efforts to fight corruption and promote national progress.
