Yemi Adaramodu, the spokesperson of the Senate, has stated that no member of the National Assembly will personally receive any funds from the N70 billion budget allocated to “support their working conditions.

This criticism stemmed from the fact that President Bola Tinubu sought and obtained approval to borrow $800 million to provide N8,000 each to 12 million households for six months as a cushion against the removal of subsidy on petroleum motor spirit (PMS).

Adaramodu dismissed claims that the budget was “padded” to accommodate the N70 billion, emphasizing that the lawmakers were fulfilling their constitutional duties.

He further explained that the allocated funds would be managed by the national assembly bureaucracy and would not be paid directly to any legislator.

The spokesperson also highlighted the need for improvements in the National Assembly Complex, stating that many senators had resorted to bringing their own furniture and conducting repairs due to the inadequate state of their offices.

Adaramodu stressed that the allocated budget would also cater to the working environment and tools of thousands of workers and service providers within the complex.

Adaramodu concluded by dismissing allegations of padding in the budget, stating that such claims existed solely in the minds of individuals seeking to discredit the 10th assembly.

He emphasized that the allocation should not be seen as a palliative for the legislators, as the national assembly complex is not owned solely by the lawmakers but serves a broader purpose.
