A senior political figure, who spoke to The Punch, hinted that Obasanjo-Bello — who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 — may choose the ADC as her political platform for her next move.
Recently, billboards featuring the former senator have surfaced in parts of Abeokuta, including Abiola Way near the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and Brewery Junction, fuelling speculation about her political comeback.
The billboards, which describe the U.S.-based veterinarian and epidemiologist as “Omo wa ni, eniyan wa ni, ara wa ni” (She is our own), have sparked renewed discussions about her potential political ambitions.
According to a source, “Although the former senator has not made any public declaration, the widespread belief is that she may contest the Ogun Central Senatorial seat, with the ADC as her likely platform. You’ll recall that former President Obasanjo gave tactical support to the ADC during the 2019 elections, which further strengthens this possibility.”
Confirming the speculations, Otunba Femi Soluade, Chairman of the ADC in Ogun State, said the party has not yet received any formal communication from Obasanjo-Bello but remains open to discussions.
He said, “Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has not made any formal approach to us yet. However, we are waiting for her to speak with us. There are many opinions about the position she might be targeting in 2027, but we are observing developments closely. I will likely discuss the matter with our executive committee soon and provide updates when we have more information.”
