Truth Behind The Throne: SECTR Leader Endorses Action Against Abia Traditional Ruler
The Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers (SECTR), Eze E. C. Okeke, has endorsed the suspension of Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the traditional ruler of Umudiawa autonomous community in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Eze Ofoegbu was suspended by the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers over allegations of forming a rival faction of traditional rulers and displaying insubordination.
Commenting on the issue, Eze Okeke accused the suspended monarch of establishing a parallel South East traditional rulers’ forum, which he claimed included individuals who were not officially recognized monarchs.
According to Eze Okeke, the actions of this rival group were deliberately intended to undermine the South East Council. He revealed that Eze Ofoegbu had previously received warnings regarding his conduct before the final decision to suspend him.
He also referenced an incident in September 2024, when SECTR placed a moratorium on all traditional events in honor of deceased Igbo icons, such as former Ohanaeze Ndigbo President Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, and Onyeka Onwenu. In defiance of this directive, Eze Ofoegbu allegedly organized a New Yam Festival in Asaba, Delta State, set for November 2024.
Eze Okeke emphasized that the suspension was a consequence of the monarch’s actions and statements, and not an act of persecution.
In response, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, speaking from his palace on Sunday, defended himself by stating that his group, the Ndigbo Progressive Traditional Rulers Forum, is legally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). He further alleged that SECTR, headed by Eze Okeke, lacks current CAC registration.
Eze Ofoegbu also claimed that his suspension was politically motivated, linking it to the award he presented to President Bola Tinubu, through Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in recognition of their contributions.
